Pater Robert Mehlhart ist Rektor des Päpstlichen Instituts für Musik (Pontificio Istituto di Musica Sacra) in Rom und als solcher Leiter der Musikuniversität des Vatikans, die sich in der Abtei San Girolamo in Urbe befindet. Ihr Konzertsaal befindet sich in der Via di San Agostino in der Nähe der Piazza Navona.
Das Päpstliche Institut für Musik (PIMS) bildet Kirchenmusiker und Lehrer für Kirchenmusik aus und leistet damit einen Dienst an den Ortskirchen in aller Welt. Es bietet eine breite Palette von Kursen und Abschlüssen an und hat derzeit etwa 160 Studenten aus 42 Nationen. Pater Robert leitet den PIMS Studentenchor regelmäßig im Petersdom und seine online Tutorials „Let’s sing with the Pope” erreichten bisher über 5 Millionen Menschen auf Instagram.
2012 wurde er zum Chordirektor und Kirchenmusiker der Hof- und Stiftskirche St. Kajetan (Theatinerkirche) in München ernannt…
